After having been transferred from New Caledonia, TOMA was sent to Hay on 24 December 1941. He was admitted to hospital on 29 August 1942. He was transferred to Loveday on 1 October 1942, where he was admitted to its camp hospital. TOMA was transferred between the 64 Australian Camp Hospital and the 121 Australian General Hospital a number of times over the next 15 months with TB. He died while he was a patient in the 121 Australian General Hospital.
