SHIMAZAKI arrived in Gaythorne on 14 October 1944. He was hospitalised at the 67 Australian Camp Hospital on 25 October 1944 with beriberi and died there on 27 October. He was cremated at the Mt Thompson Crematorium on 30 October 1944. His ashes were interred in the Barmera War Cemetery in August 1946.
